Reunion Island hosts eductour for French tour operator Solea

Reunion Island hosts eductour for French tour operator Solea ( Selected by the French tour operator Solea, twelve travel agents visited on an eductour, the island of La Reunion. A collaboration between the agency receptive Mille Tours and IRT (Reunion Island Tourism), the eductour program provided tourism professionals with accommodation, leisure activities, and the chance to experience first-hand a myriad of landmarks around the island.

On January 19, 2014, the group went to the west coast of the island where they stayed at the Reef Hotel. After visiting the hotel Alamanda and enjoying lunch on site, these tourism professionals experienced a fishing trip organized by Bato Pei at the seaside resort of Saint-Gilles-les-Bains.

The next day, the team had an early morning (7 am) appointment to drive to the “wild south” to Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. After an eventful day, the group was able to relax at the hotel Boucan canoe, located on one of the most beautiful sandy beaches of La Reunion, where they spent the night.

On January 21, the start was given for the “Meeting Express West/South," a challenge based on the principle of the “Beijing Express" in which the travel agents had access to the hotels Palm and Lux on Reunion Island to visit both of these upscale establishments. These travel professionals were carried away by the Reunion welcomes they received during the morning. After lunch at the Palm, overlooking the Grand Anse beach restaurant, the participants left for Cilaos where they spent the night at the hotel Vieux Cep.

The next day, they were given an introduction to canyoning by Evasion Kreol, and after borrowing slides, jumps were performed in the basins of the living waters, and the group also rappelled the side of a waterfall and enjoyed a picnic courtesy of the Tapacala breakfast table. By late afternoon, a working session was waiting at the Lux where the travel agents later settled in for the night.

On the last day, these tourism professional discovered one of the flagship products of the island of La Reunion - an overview of the island by helicopter. This was the key that allowed them to understand and view the spectacular scenery and remarkable relief of La Reunion. With a luncheon at the Copacabana on the beach of Saline-les-Bains, the eductour participants enjoyed the sweetness of the lagoon before heading to the hotel Iloha, located in the hills of Saint Leu, a paragliding mecca of the island.

This trip provided the opportunity for the travel agents to meet local providers on site and to experience the warmth and professionalism of Reunion Island tourism. It is important for the IRT to sustain its relationship with the destination program of this Solea meeting that has been happening now for fifteen years. Because of this eductour program, this tour operator has recorded an increase of 24.7 % over the previous year during the same period.
