Handball legend named Reunion Island Ambassador

Handball legend named Reunion Island Ambassador (Forimmediaterelease.net) At the 4th Liberty Festival on Reunion Island, the legend of French handball, Jackson Richardson, was named an Honorary Ambassador of the island of La Reunion. Captain of the France handball team, bronze medal winner at the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992, and double world champion, he was voted best player in the world in 1995 and has over 400 caps for France… a record!

A known top sportsman and recognized advocate of diversity, Jackson Richardson is a positive example for young islanders. For his talent, fair play, and reputation, he conveys a positive image of the island and thus contributes to its media outreach.

It is natural that the IRT (Reunion Island Tourism) honored Jackson Richardson as an Ambassador of the island of La Reunion on Sunday, December 22, 2013.

HIS DEBUT

Born on June 14, 1969 in Saint-Pierre, Jackson Richardson discovered handball at the age of 6 years. In 1988, the final day of the National 3, he registered seven goals in Medard before the coach of the France team.

HIS CAREER

He then signed up for Paris-Asnieres the following year, joining the team of France. In 1991, he joined the team of the OM-Vitrolles and received the title of champion of France in 1994 and 1996, the Cup of France in 1993 and 1995, and the Winners Cup in 1993. Courted by top European clubs, Jackson Richardson, initially played in the Germany Grosswallstadt club for which he won the Cup of Cities in 2000. Then came the climax in Spain, where he joined the Club of San Antonio Pamplona with the key, a Champions League against Barcelona, and won a championship in Spain the following year.

HIS INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Jackson Richardson has an incredible track record: world champion in 1995 and 2001 (and four other podium finishes in 1993, 1997, 2003, and 2005); a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona; and an individual title of best player in the world in 1995. With over 400 selections, it is by far the best record for the France team.

CURRENTLY

After several seasons abroad, Jackson Richardson returned to play in the France Chambery Savoie Handball Club (seasons 2005-2006&2006-2007). Now retired at the international level since 2008, Jackson Richardson remains active and joined the German club Rhein-Neckar Lowen on April 12, 2009, for a season. In 2011, he signed with AS Monaco as a leader where he puts his experience to good use for the club.
