Seychelles and Cotswold Wildlife Park of the UK celebrate partnership

Seychelles and Cotswold Wildlife Park of the UK celebrate partnership ( Seychelles and the Cotswold Wildlife Park in the UK have celebrated their partnership at a lunch reception held on Sunday and said they were looking forward to more future collaboration which will benefit both sides.

Seychelles was represented at the event by its Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange; High Commissioner to the UK, Marie-Pierre Lloyd; PR Manager in the Seychelles Tourist Office in UK, Lena Hoareau; and Tourism Ambassador for Oxfordshire, Georgia Dunlop.

Among the distinguished guests at the event were the Mayor of Burford, John White; the Chairman of the Oxfordshire County Council, Timothy Hallchurch; the Chairman of West Oxfordshire District Council, Derek Cotteril; the owner of the Cotswold Wildlife Park, Reggie Heyworth; and the curator of the Cotswold Wildlife Park, Jamie Craig.

Speaking at the reception, Minister St.Ange said good relations between Seychelles and the Park started in 2012 when the country donated a giant tortoise – Darwin – to the Park and from there, there have been several exchanges between the two.

The curator, Mr. Craig, had himself visited Seychelles earlier this year and met with several officers involved in the environment sector. In return, a staff member of the Ministry of Environment, Collin Barreau, is currently on an exchange work program at the Park.

Minister St.Ange said that both sides stand to benefit hugely from each other’s expertise in specific fields as the different exchanges in education programs gather momentum.

He then presented Mr. Heyworth with a Coco de Mer, on behalf of the government of Seychelles, in a bid to cement the growing relations between Seychelles and the Park.

Mr. Heyworth also spoke in favor of more exchanges and said that the Park now has a new friend and partner in Darwin and Seychelles. He also presented Minister St.Ange with a token.

Following lunch, the guests visited Darwin in his pen and also the Tropical House, an area where Seychelles can share its experience and also learn a lot from its partner.
