Seychelles 2013 Festival Kreol set to launch recognition of the island's musical icons (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Ministry of Tourism and Culture and its Festival Kreol Organising Committee have confirmed that they will use the 2013 Festival Kreol to launch a recognition process of the island's musical icons. The Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Mr Alain St.Ange said so at the last Festival Kreol Organising Committee Meeting and he has sought the support of SEYMAS, the Association representing the local musician in the deciding process for singling out the island's musical icons.

“It is important that we not only say that we appreciate those who have entertained us and kept our cultural heritage alive, but it is important for us to be seen to be marking this appreciation in a manner that will be long-lasting" Minister St.Ange said.

Francois Havelock and Davis Philoe are two such musical personalities whose names have been discussed by the Minister responsible for Culture and the Chairperson of the Musician's Association. One sadly passed away but weeks ago and the second one has retreated from the public eye due to health difficulties.

After charming Seychelles and their fans for years, both Francois Havelock and David Philoé have become house hold names. For David Philoe despite his retreat from the musical sphere because of his struggling battle with an illness he keeps spreading his charm and has gained Ministry of Tourism and Culture’s blessing to become Seychelles first singing star to walk away with a recognition award during the official opening ceremony of 2013 Festival Kreol.

David Philoe emerge at the age of 20 as the island’s new talent, the treasure trove of rare and great performances rose into one of the most influential stars of his generation. It is quite an interesting fact that over the years the gifted singer defied all odds to join a roster of Seychelles celebrities and took flight on the island’s mega hits of his times.

Even before he released his popular Creole hits “ Si i pa zoli” and “ Mersi Bondye”, the appearance on stage of David Philoé was a surprising and spontaneous moment conjured up before every eyes.

David Philoe also had a knack for singing as he narrates. His songs arguably contained a rich assortment of lyrics that thorn once heart apart yet it’s the singer’s pure nature of his moment that makes it one to really remembered and watch again and again.
Today Seychelles singing sensation is sure to thrill.

Alain St Ange, Seychelles Minister for Minister and Culture has taken it as his duty to go and visit David Philoé at his home to personally announce his intention of making him the first Seychellois to stand on the official opening ceremony stage of Festival Kreol and do him the honour of taking the recognition award of his contributions played in the musical arena.

“Seychelles have a string of artists who one way or another contributed immensely to the musical industry. It is important that their contributions are recognised when they are still present with us. I want you to become the first Seychellois artist that I personally pay tribute and gives due recognition to your work’’ Alain St.Ange said

Deeply touched by the gesture, David Philoé replied to Minister St.Ange that “he is honoured to take this award’’ and open the gate way for other Seychelles artists to be recognised in other editions of Festival Kreol. Minister St.Ange has thanked Au Cap District Administrator for making this visit at David Philoé possible and for being supportive of this award.

The 64 years old is marking his 45 years in the music industry with a big surprise in store for his fans. Seychelles distinctive singer is recording a spiritual album which will surely remains a reference of David Philo era.
