Spanish Formentera ranks as most expensive destination in Europe

Spanish Formentera ranks as most expensive destination in Europe (Forimmediaterelease.net) Formentera, part of Spain’s Balearic archipelago, has been named the most expensive summer destination in Europe by Cheaprooms.co.uk. A survey conducted by the site looked at the hotel rates of all important European destinations during this past main travel month of August. As a result of that comparison, Formentera was bestowed with the costliest distinction.

An overnight stay in Formentera, which is situated approximately six kilometers to the south of Ibiza, cost visitors an average of 175 Euros in August. Even then, they were able to lodge only in the Spanish island’s cheapest available double room. The second-place finisher on the survey, Edinburgh, trailed significantly behind Formentera at 157 Euros nightly for the most affordable room.

The Scottish capital of Edinburgh was followed by the German island of Sylt. Taking the number three spot on the survey, Germany’s northernmost island cost travelers an average of 154 Euros per night in August.

The most expensive destination in Italy was Bibione, a beautiful summer resort on the Adriatic Sea. At an average overnight rate of 113 Euros, it ranked tenth most expensive in Europe during the summer lodging wise. Joining it in the Top 20 were four other Italian destinations: Capri, Elba Island, Bardolino and Amalfi.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive summer destinations in Europe. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for each destination's cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel) for the time period spanning August 1 through 31.
