Seychelles Indian community rallies behind the island's first Seychelles-India Day

Seychelles Indian community rallies behind the island's first Seychelles-India Day (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Indian community of Seychelles has responded positively to the call by the Seychelles Ministry for Tourism and Culture, the High Commission of India, and by the Seychelles-India Day organizing committee to get behind the first Seychelles-India Day Celebrations. For the first time since the Seychelles launched the idea of organizing Seychelles-India Day celebrations, Alain St.Ange, the island's Minister for Tourism and Culture, and H.E. Thanglura Darlong, the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles, met with representatives of the Indian local community to explain the raison d'etre behind the hosting of a Seychelles-India Day. The meeting was also to gain support of the Seychelles Indian community to help make this coming celebration the success it deserves to be. Both Minister St.Ange and H.E. Thanglura Darlong felt that as the date of the celebrations was getting closer, the time was now right to bring the local Indian community on board. Minister St.Ange reiterated that the first edition of the Seychelles-India Day Celebrations will do justice to the diversity of the population call by Seychelles.

“There will be culture, there will be cuisine, and there will be music. Victoria will be showcasing for three days what India is all about. We are all hoping that this first edition of the Seychelles-Indian Day Celebrations will set the tone for future ones,” Alain St.Ange said

He had also reiterated his appeal to the Seychelles Indian community to be pro-active in supporting Seychelles-India Day.

“We want the Seychelles-India Day celebrations to become something that takes its place in the calendar of events of our country and becomes a cultural asset of Seychelles. We really need to ensure that we rally everybody with an affinity to India or the Indian culture to come down to Victoria on October 4 and 6 and use the area dedicated outside the International Conference Centre to turn it into a small India for the duration of the three-day celebrations,” Minister St.Ange said, adding that the Seychelles-India Day is a chance for every shopkeeper, for every trader, and for everyone with an Indian connection to feel proud of the event.

"The local Indian community will bring added perfection to the event. I am today inviting all of you to join us to make this event as successful as possible," Minister Alain St.Ange said.
