Pitons, cirques and ramparts of Reunion Island celebrates 3rd year on UNESCO World Heritage list

Pitons, cirques and ramparts of Reunion Island celebrates 3rd year on UNESCO World Heritage list (Forimmediaterelease.net) On August 1, 2010, the Pitons, cirques and ramparts of Reunion Island made their entry onto the list of natural UNESCO World Heritage properties. Today, Reunion Island celebrates the third anniversary of this magnificent property at the heart of the national park.

This classification includes two volcanic massifs of Piton de la Fournaise and Piton des Neiges, and Mafate and the ramparts that define the interior of the island. Added to these sites are the Piton d’Anchaing in Salazie, the Piton de Sucre and the Chapelle in Cilaos, the Grande Chaloupe in the north of the island and Mare Longue in the south. The funds from the cirques of Cilaos and Salazie and the Plaine des Palmistes are buffer zones in which specific arrangements can combine the development of socio-economic activities in the preservation of natural resources.

Happy Birthday to the Pitons, cirques and ramparts of Reunion Island, on its third anniversary on the UNESCO World Heritage list, recognized for its mineral, vegetable and animal wealth!
