Seychelles artist, Mercenary, is received by Minister responsible for Tourism & Culture as cultural revolution takes root (Forimmediaterelease.net) More and more Seychelles musicians are taking comfort in visiting the Ministry of Tourism and Culture at the National Cultural Centre in Victoria, and this interest for them to meet with Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, has increased ever since popular singer Jean-Marc Volcy, one of their very own respected artists, said that Seychelles was undergoing a “cultural revolution.”

This week it was Mercenary, born Vincent Dennis Eliza, who was received by Minister Alain St.Ange and the ministry of Tourism and Culture. It was also the opportunity for Mercenary to present to the Minister responsible for Culture with a copy of his latest music CD entitled “MERCENARY selebrasyon.”

Mercenary or Vincent Dennis Eliza started in the music industry at the age of 15 years. He started by featuring other singers of his own age group and performing in mini shows mainly at district level in the community centers. He began his solo career in 2006, and to date he has produced 7 albums altogether. His unique husky voice, together with his talent in using powerful and captivating lyrics in the different styles of songs he sings, has gained him massive popularity from both the younger and the older generations. He specializes in reggae, dancehall, rap, R&B, and hip hop.

Mercenary sings about everyday issues affecting the youth especially, and most of the songs targeted at the youth have positive messages of encouragement for them. He was invited to perform in the first Youth Festival with his song “Lanmour fodre ganny partaze” and another of his songs, “Traze Lavi,” was also adopted by the JJ Spirit Foundation for Careers Week. He also sings about the importance of respecting the rights of individuals as well as the beauty of love.

Mercenary has performed in multiple shows both at the national and international level. He has twice been the recipient of the Cable Tune Awards. Internationally, he has performed in Mauritius, Rodrigues, and the UK, respectively.

A few of his songs has topped the charts both in the Seychelles and in the Indian Ocean. His latest album, “Selebrasyon,” just released in July this month, is already makings a lot of progress with a few songs topping the local music chart. Minister St.Ange congratulated Mercenary for launching this latest music CD and assured him that the Department of Culture within his Ministry stands with each and every artist. “We are the Ministry responsible for Culture, and our key partners are the artists of our country. Both performing and visual arts needs to be more seen and in so doing more known. We are happy to see and to note that artists are today looking at our work as a cultural revolution. Together with the artists, we shall do more for the arts in Seychelles," Minister Alain St.Ange said after receiving a copy of the music CD by Mercenary.
