Outstanding academic achievement by two SFA’s sponsored university trainees

Outstanding academic achievement by two SFA’s sponsored university trainees ( The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) and the Ministry of Natural Resources have the honor to announce the outstanding academic achievement of two of SFA’s sponsored University trainees.

Dr. Jude Peter Bijoux has completed his PhD at the University of d’Aix Marsaille in May 2013 with the highest honors. Dr. Bijoux’s dissertation was related to reef Fish Spawning Aggregation sites - The Ecology of Aggregation and resident. Dr. Bijoux’s scientific interest is in understanding the mobility of fishes and factors that structure coral reef fish communities.

He is particularly interested in fish dynamics related to the formation of spawning aggregations and the interaction of coral reef fishes with fishing gears. Dr. Bijoux has resumed full-time employment with the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) since June 2013.

The second Seychelles Fishing Authority’s sponsored university trainee is Mr. Ameer Ebrahim. He has graduated with a Master’s degree with high honors and being the most outstanding student of his group. He has obtained his Master’s degree in Marine Science from the prestigious Australian University of Griffith University.

Mr. Ameer Ebrahim has developed a thesis with a personal methodology that convinced the jury to decipher the various organisms in marine algae and machinery needed for better preservation of the marine ecosystem. “It is important to know what we have in our seas to better appreciate their importance," said Mr. Ebrahim.

A master of high honors also opens the doors of the renowned University of Brisbane. Ameer Ebrahim also received a grant from the Australian Rivers Institute (ARI) to publish his work in the world. [ Extract: ]

Mr. Ameer Ebrahim wishes to bring closer some of the scientific activities of the SFA with that of the university and to attempt to make known some scientific programs of the UNISEY, especially the Faculty of Environment which is expected to incorporate modules of Fisheries Science to some renowned scientific institutes with similar programs.
