Tobago’s Pigeon Point Beach rated among the best

Tobago’s Pigeon Point Beach rated among the best ( The island of Tobago has long since been regarded as a haven for white sandy beaches and azure blue waters and is the playground for mostly European tourists who use the island to escape from the cold.

Recently, US-based media giant CNN asked their online readers, friends, and colleagues to rank what they thought were the world’s 100 top beaches, and their responses included exotic locales in every part of the globe. Among the top 100 was Pigeon Point Beach on the island of Tobago, Trinidad’s smaller sister isle.

CNN’s website describes Pigeon Point as a “literal representation of the Caribbean’s ideal, right down to the charming old lady who sells soursop ice cream by the pound.” There is also mention of that iconic feature of Pigeon Point, the thatched-roof jetty which is quite possibly the most photographed jetty in the world.

The beach, which is arguably the most famous on the island, was ranked at position number 98 among locations such as Panama City Beach in Florida, Bondi Beach in Australia, and Bottom Bay in Barbados.

Pigeon Point beach is located on the southwestern end of Tobago and is conveniently located 20 minutes from the island’s capital of Scarborough and 5 minutes from the ANR Robinson International Airport. The beach is also walking distance from major hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants. Pigeon Point is also the jumping off point for a visit to two of Tobago’s most popular sea-based attractions, Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool. Therefore, when visiting Pigeon Point, snorkeling gear is a must if one decides to take a tour to these sites.

So next time you visit Tobago, make sure that a visit to Pigeon Point Beach is on your list of things to do along with the myriad of other activities available on both islands. Visitors should not pass up the chance to lounge, sun bathe, and frolic on what CNN calls, visitors agree, and Trinidadians and Tobagonians know, is one of the best beaches in the world.
