Hamburg’s Scandic Emporio is a green trendsetter ( LOS ANGELES, California - Following their corporate holistic philosophy, the Scandic Hamburg Emporio in Hamburg, Germany, has demonstrated ecological, economic, and social responsibility since its construction phase. “Natural Steps towards a Better World” is the motto here, and sustainability values are at the core of all actions. This upscale hotel impresses with high eco-standards, which were recently awarded Green Globe re-certification.

“Last year in September we opened a 325-room hotel in one of the best locations in this city – the new Emporio Complex at the Gaensemarkt,” said Steffen Seichter, Director of Sales&Marketing at the Scandic Hamburg Emporio. “Being a pioneer when it comes to environmental protection and sustainability, using trendsetting design and Jamie Oliver’s food and beverage concept, the Scandic Hamburg Emporio brings a fresh breeze to Hamburg’s hotel industry. The international recognition under the Green Globe program is proof of Scandic’s 20-year success story, benchmarking the sustainable hotel business segment.”

All guest rooms, public areas, such as lobbies and lounges, as well as meeting and conference rooms at Scandic Hamburg Emporio are built with natural and sustainable materials. From manufacture and transportation to durability and recycling – all materials are energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The hotel recycles above and beyond the national requirements, and waste according to the principle of its origin. Air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems are designed for durability and easy maintenance. Energy is provided by environmentally friendly partners – Greenpeace Energy.

The Swedish hotel group Scandic promotes awareness across all levels - Scandic Hamburg Emporio’s in-house restaurant, bar and lounge “H20” offer outstanding regional and seasonal cuisine, with a Scandinavian twist. Gluten-free bread and lactose-free milk are available. The hotel’s meeting facilities offer eco-certified conference materials, the menus of “Naked Chef” Jamie Oliver, fair-trade coffee, and the company’s own brand bottled, cooled and filtered “Scandic water.” The water bottles are designed by Swedish Olympic swimmer Therese Alshammar, and they are made of mouth-blown recycled glass. For each bottle sold, ten cents go to the Scandic Sustainability Fund, supporting initiatives for a more sustainable society.

On an international level, the Scandic Sustainability Fund works with Save the Children, a non-profit organization protecting children’s rights worldwide. The organization’s mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their live.
