Seychelles marks its presence at Spotlight Africa

Seychelles marks its presence at Spotlight Africa ( A delegation from Seychelles attended its first Spotlight Africa workshop held in Nairobi earlier this month.

The delegation was led by the Regional Manager for Africa, Marsha Parcou, and she had the support of the Tourism Ambassador from Kenya, Popsy Getonga and a representative from the Destination Management Company (DMC) 7 Degrees South.

The two-day workshop helped to further establish Seychelles on the map in Africa and the tour operators were very pleased to learn what more the destination has offer besides sun, sand and sea.
There was great interest in the destination and 7 degrees South managed to secure several bookings whereas the tourist office made some very good business contacts to help increase sales from that market.

Ms Parcou described the event as a complete success for Seychelles, given that it was the first time the destination was exhibiting there, and said she was hopeful that good results would come out of the many contacts made there.
“The interest in the Seychelles destination was strong and the agents and tour operators were keen to learn about the diversification of our products. I’m very positive that we will see more queries and sales from that market,” said Ms Parcou.

Some 200 travel agents and tour operators from 130 different companies attended the workshops.
Also during her working visit in Nairobi, Ms Parcou attended the Skal Lunch at the Tribe Hotel. Skal is a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship.

Its members – industry’s managers and executives – meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.
Ms Parcou said it was important for Seychelles to enhance its public relations as the destination strives to continue to create awareness and establish good relationship with stakeholders across the African region.

A number of sales calls were also conducted in Nairobi and in one of those, Ms Parcou met with the Director of Marketing of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), Ms Jacintha Nzioka Mbithi. Ms Mbithi has expressed her wish for Seychelles to participate in the Magical Kenya Travel Expo which will be held from 18-10 October in Nairobi.

The expo is an annual high profile international tourism exhibition hosted by KTB and it is becoming increasingly popular as it continues to attract international buyers and exhibitors.
This year, KTB is targeting over 120 international travel agents, tour operators and representation from the local and regional corporate sector.

Discussions were also held with the Area Manager for Kenya Airways, Mr Albert Abwoya.
Ms Parcou expressed her office’s desire to enhance working relations with Kenya Airways and secure the support of the airline for different marketing activities such as FAM and press trips and joint promotions.

Mr Abowoya reiterated the airline’s support towards Seychelles and said they would consider the initiatives as a way forward.

Meanwhile, Tourism Ambassador Getonga remains the tourism board’s main contact in Kenya and Ms Parcou took the opportunity to thank her for her continuous effort and assistance in ensuring the Seychelles presence on that market.
