Inaugural Wine & Gourmet ASIA 2007 Hailed As Resounding Success ( Next Wine&Gourmet ASIA 2008 to take place November 5-7 November, 2008

Wine&Gourmet Asia has been successfully established as the regional networking platform for the fine wine, gourmet and hospitality industry, following the resounding success of the inaugural event in Macau.

Held at The Cotai Strip™ Convention and Exhibition Center at The Venetian® Macao, the Wine&Gourmet ASIA 2007 trade exhibition attracted 7,300 trade visitors, with over 55% traveling from outside of Macau. It was the first specialized F&B trade event to take place in Macau with 142 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions around the world participating.

“With the success of this year’s event, we are pleased to announce that Wine&Gourmet ASIA 2008 has been confirmed to take place at the same location from 5-7 November 2008,” said Koelnmesse Asia Pacific Vice President Michael Dreyer.

“I am very pleased with the trade visitor quality at Wine&Gourmet ASIA 2007, which is one of the key factors in the success of the show. We saw the top decision-makers and buyers of food service and the catering market from the region and out of Asia participate in many discussions with our exhibitors.”

Exhibitors unanimously praised the outstanding quality of trade visitors and buyers.

Mark Wood, Trade Commissioner for Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), Australian Consulate-General, Hong Kong, who was overseeing the Australian Pavilion at the exhibition, said: “Wine&Gourmet Asia 2007 provided an excellent platform for Australian suppliers to showcase their products to all the key buyers from Macau's booming food service and hospitality sectors.”

“For the first B2B exhibition in Macau, Wine&Gourmet ASIA is over my expectations. It gave us a platform to showcase our company's profile and capabilities. Many of our guests are very impressed. The organizing team is very professional and we look forward to working together with them in future and to bring in more exhibitors and visitors to Macau,” said Mr. Paul Iec, Managing Director of Seapower Trading, largest distributor of wine, liquor and beer in Macau.

“Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute organized for 130 exhibitors to attend the first Wine&Gourmet ASIA and received very positive feedback from them. We look forward to organizing the attendance of more participants to the show in the future and working in partnership with the organizers to make it a great success,” said Dr Jackson Chang, Executive Director of Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute.

Key buyers also commented on the quality of the show: “Wine&Gourmet Asia is a good opportunity for buyers to meet suppliers. Macau has changed dramatically in the last 5 years and I’m sure this event is something that the market needs. The show will grow from here and I look forward to coming back next year,” said Mr. Fritz Sommerau, Head of Hospitality Services, The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

During Wine&Gourmet ASIA 2007, an extensive range of supporting activities were arranged for visitors, including the Asian Cocktail Championship, MORS Gold Pin Competition, Macau Culinary Alliance Show Piece Competition, Culinary Masterclasses, Wine Tasting Masterclasses, Hospitality Trend Forum, and Behind The Scenes Site Visit.

A number of winners were announced at the events:

• Asian Cocktail Championship – Flairtending Cocktail, with 21 participants from 7 countries and regions, was won by Hsu Po-Sheng from Bartenders Association of Taiwan whose winning cocktail was ‘The Melody of Spiderman’, second prize winner was Mel Anthony Padua from Sin Mtg Station of Philippines and the second runner-up was Kenichi Oba from One Shot of Japan.

• Asian Cocktail Championship – Classical Cocktail was won by Yoshikazu Wakabayashi, Bar Kohno, Japan, with Huang Da-Feng of Taiwan in second place and Kon Hsiang-En of Taiwan taking the third position.

• MORS (Macau Occupational Skills Recognition System) Gold Pin Competition 2007, the winners of each category are:
Assistant Cook – Wong Wen-U, Sands Casino&Kerpatrik Gonzales Boiser, Wynn Macau
Bartender – Li Dong-Lian, Sands Casino&Ruel Florida Landicho, Wynn Macau
Waiter and Waitress (Western Restaurant Service) – Yang Gang, Wynn Macau&Wu Qing-Rong, Wynn Macau
Waiter and Waitress (Chinese Restaurant Service) – Feng Yuan-Yuan, Grand Lisboa&Hou Zhi-Lan, Wynn Macau

• Macau Culinary Alliance Show Piece Competition, the winners of each category are:
Individual Showpiece Competition – Pastry - Herve Lemonon and Ronald Gonzales, Mandarin Oriental Macau
Individual Western Cake Competition – Tommy Li Kin Pong, Crown Macau

Wine&Gourmet ASIA was further supported by 5 days of world-class sell out gastronomic events, including a series of gourmet dinners, culinary and wine masterclasses, and a sensational Gala Dinner.

Three-Michelin-Starred chef Alain Passard, renowned chefs Justin North from Bécasse in Sydney both hosted by Crown Macau), David Laris from Laris, Three on the Bund in Shanghai (hosted by Mandarin Oriental Macau), and Jereme Leung from Whampoa Club in Shanghai and Beijing (hosted by The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel) presented their signature creations for the pleasure of gourmands, and wine lovers delighted in the premium wines of Château Cos d’Estournel and Paul Jaboulet Aîné.

The epicurean events took place from 6-10 November at four of Macau’s top hotels: Crown Macau, Mandarin Oriental Macau, The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel, and Wynn Macau.

Mr João Manuel Costa Antunes, Director of Macau Government Tourist Office summarized, “This is the first time for Macau to play host to Wine&Gourmet ASIA, which gives Macau a good opportunity to showcase to the representatives from culinary and beverage circles in Asia our unique Macanese cuisine, fine Portuguese wines and charming tourist attractions.

Wine&Gourmet ASIA is organized by Koelnmesse, organizer of the world’s largest food trade show, ANUGA, and is supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office.
