South Africa Minister of Tourism visits the Seychelles stand at INDABA 2013 ( The Seychelles stand at INDABA 2013, the South African Tourism Trade Fair, was one of the exhibitor stands to be visited by Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk, South Africa’s Tourism Minister, on the official opening day of the tourism fair.

Minister van Schalkwyk and his delegation made up of high officials of his Ministry and members of the press was welcomed at the Seychelles stand by Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture. The South African Minister met members of the Seychelles delegation at this year’s INDABA which this year also included Cramer Ball, the CEO of Air Seychelles and the Vice President of South African Airways (SAA), who had just announced the new codeshare agreement between the two airlines.

The South African Tourism Minister, Mr. Marthinus van Schalkwyk, and his Seychelles counterpart, Mr. Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, had the day before been jointly interviewed by the popular SABC2 Morning Live TV program. This South Africa Broadcasting Corporation channel remains a popular TV program with a big nationwide following.

During that joint interview, Minister van Schalkwyk of South Africa spoke about the importance of INDABA, the African Tourism Trade Fair that is staged annually in Durban, and Minister St.Ange of the Seychelles on his part said that the time had arrived for this tourism fair to be seen at the African Tourism Fair where Africa as a whole showcases itself to the world. During this live interview, Minister St.Ange of the Seychelles presented his South African counterpart with one of the unique Seychelles coco-de-mer nuts mounted on a crosscut of a takamaka tree trunk.

The South African Minister is expected in Seychelles in mid-August to sign an MOU with the Seychelles Minister St.Ange. The South African Minister will be accompanied by a delegation of South African press.
