ICCA congress delegates and a small Thai orphanage

( This October's ICCA Congress in Thailand saw the launch of the new I&MI Media Charity Golf Classic, a charity golf tournament that will be the regular focal point to encourage delegates to contribute directly towards a needy cause wherever the Congress takes place. This year the selected charity was the Baan Jing Jaiorphanage, a small facility with about 60 children, all of whom were found abandoned with no knowledge of who their parents were. In Thailand this is a major problem, because a Birth Certificate is needed to register for all manner of state support, and the orphanage attempts to obtain this vital document for the children as well as looking after their needs for shelter and education. Two young children were found abandoned and sleeping rough at a deserted factory during the ICCA Congressand were taken in by the orphanage, a typical example.

The I&MI Media Golf Classic directly raised almost EURO 5,000 towards this cause, and during the ICCA Congress that followed, this was added to by donations and sales of items the children made, so that eventually EURO 12,000 was raised. This will ensure that all the children have proper beds (only two-thirds had any form of bed previously) and will also contribute towards the purchase of a minibus to take the children to schools and for excursions.

Quote by Incentives&Meetings International publisher Bill LaViolette: “I can't think of a better combination thanhaving fun and doing good. After getting acquainted with these wonderful children and knowing what will be accomplishedto improve their lives we are more excited than ever to continue to hostthis event and have it become a fixture at the annual conference."

Quote by ICCA CEO Martin Sirk: “The idea for this new tournament came from I&MI Media, and has helped us to find a meaningful charitable dimension for our annual Congress. Delegates can see exactly how their donations make a valuable impact."
