Director General of Badea on official visit in Seychelles (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), H.E. Abdelaziz Khelef, is currently in Seychelles on a 4-day official visit.

BADEA is a financial institution owned by eighteen Arab country members of the League of Arab States (LAS) which signed its Establishing Agreement on February 18, 1974. Member states are comprised of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain, Republic of Tunisia, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of the Sudan, Republic of Iraq, Arab Republic of Syria, Sultanate of Oman, State of Palestine, State of Qatar, State of Kuwait, Republic of Lebanon, Libya, Arab Republic of Egypt, Kingdom of Morocco, and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The bank was created for the purpose of strengthening economic, financial, and technical cooperation between the Arab and African regions and for the embodiment of Arab-African solidarity on foundations of equality and friendship. It began its operations in March 1975 and its headquarters are located in Khartoum, the capital of the Republic of the Sudan.

Mr. Khelef, a citizen of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, was appointed as Director General in April 2006, and this is his second visit to Seychelles since he assumed office.

During his visit, Mr. Khelef would be meeting with Seychelles President James Michel, Vice President Danny Faure, and other senior government officials. Mr. Khelef will be visiting various projects funded by BADEA such as the Maritime Training Centre, Ile Perseverance, and the Seychelles Tourism Academy.
