Joburg holds its own at Cape Town Jazz Festival
In order to attract both business and leisure tourists, Joburg Tourism has identified strategic local and international platforms – like the Cape Town Jazz Festival - to stage marketing and promotion actions aimed at creating awareness of the brand, forthcoming events, and also sharing the city’s marketing plans with travel trade, media, and tourism stakeholders.
MMC Ruby Mathang, responsible for economic development at the city of Johannesburg, will be joining the group in hosting industry stakeholders, tour operators, and international media at 2 networking events during the course of the weekend. The city leadership is committed to supporting tourism growth, playing its role to encouraging greater partnerships between local government and the private sector, and at the same time realizing its full potential as a destination of choice for both domestic and international business and leisure travelers.
“Holding marketing activations at an event like the Cape Town Jazz Festival aligns with our mandate to promote tourism growth in Joburg,” explains Phelisa Mangcu, Acting CEO, Joburg Tourism. “This is where we call on our industry stakeholders to embrace and support these events, along with our annual signature calendar events, like the Joy of Jazz, Arts Alive, and the Sansui Summer Cup, to mention but a few.”
“Initiatives like special packages and promotions created around these events go a long way in growing such events and thereby also increasing tourism numbers to Joburg,” says Mangcu. “Our busy annual calendar presents myriads of opportunities and untapped potential for joint marketing agreements and co-promotions like special packages designed around the specific event and tourism products and services,” says Mangcu.
