Seychelles Music Association SEYMAS proposes plan of action to develop music industry in Seychelles and forges close partnership with Ministry of Tourism and Culture

Seychelles Music Association SEYMAS proposes plan of action to develop music industry in Seychelles and forges close partnership with Ministry of Tourism and Culture (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles Music Association, SEYMAS, has proposed to the Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and Culture a plan of action aimed at developing a closer working partnership with the Seychelles government to promote the local musical industry.

The plan of action was proposed in a meeting between members of the Management Committee of SEYMAS; the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange; and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Arts Council, Jimmy Savy. In attendance was the Principal Secretary for Tourism, Sherin Naiken; the Principal Secretary for Culture, Benjamine Rose; and the Special Advisor to the Minister, Raymonde Onezime.

Ralf Amesbury, Chairman of the Seychelles Music Association, said that “for artists and for musicians to develop in the present competitive industry, they need to re-look at the way they are operating and at the way they are doing business. It’s time for us artists and musicians to take stock of what we are doing and how we can position Seychelles on the international scene and at the same time give our local public a much better product. As artists and musicians we need to re-look at our artistic product and services being provided, re-look at our performance, and at our stage management, among others. … It’s time that we become fully engaged in what we do.”

Patrick Victor, a member of Seychelles Music Association, said “professional norm should before anything else, remain the code of conduct of artists and for musicians and their services branded with the mark of excellence.”

Speaking on behalf of the association he has proposed a plan of action to be developed in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, other government bodies, artists, and musicians.

The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Alain St.Ange, said that although Seychelles’ National Arts Council remains the committed body to support and to work with artists and musicians to help develop this industry further, his ministry also works in a concerted effort with all associations in the creative industry to ensure we continue to protect what we have as cultural assets, and to help in showcasing all we have in music, arts, and others that make us proud of what we are as the Seychellois people.
