Seychelles Tourism Academy students donate for a good cause

Seychelles Tourism Academy students donate for a good cause ( Students of the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) have reached out to the community by helping one of their colleagues and his family whose house was gutted by fire in 2011.

Fletcher Ravinia, a food and production apprentice student at the Seychelles Tourism Academy, and his mother received from Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, a check of 11,350 rupees.

Minister St.Ange presented the check on behalf of the students of the Seychelles Tourism Academy. The money comes partly from the Tourism Academy's second prize takings at the last Carnaval International de Victoria 2013 and from student contributions.

In a ceremony at the Seychelles Tourism Academy, Minister St.Ange commended the Seychelles Tourism Academy for its thoughtful initiative, saying that it is heartening to see students making a difference in the lives of their fellow colleagues.

“You need to be commended for such a noble gesture. Congratulations for being here to support your colleague in times of need. Fletcher and his family have gone through tough times because of the fire. We sympathize with them, and we can only say that we hope that we can do more for each and every one in the community who are struck by such calamities. This donation is but a small gesture, but by publicizing it, that will help show the caring side of our community for those who are in need,” said Minister St.Ange.

Peter Moncherry, Seychelles Tourism Academy General Manager Hotel d’Application, said that the check donation clearly illustrates the institution’s mission to “stimulate and develop social awareness and responsibilities among students.”
