Seychelles singer Joennise Juliette will appear on the Ministry of Tourism and Culture’s Wall of Fame

Seychelles singer Joennise Juliette will appear on the Ministry of Tourism and Culture’s Wall of Fame ( The Seychelles islands are proud of the music it sees as its cultural heritage. The island’s musical arena has crafted many promising artists of multiple talents and some of them are today being acclaimed as a “diva.”

Joennise Juliette is one local artist who has risen to the level of Seychelles diva. Last week she celebrated her Silver Jubilee as a Seychelles artist. The 25 years in her career has brought recognition for her locally in Seychelles, and also on the regional and international level. Joennise remains one of Seychelles’ golden voices, earning her the title of the “Sega Queen.”

This week Joennise Juliette has traced her journey of her 25 years as a singer in an exhibition at Carrefour des Arts in Victoria.

The photo exhibition aptly named “Retras Larout” brings out Joennise Juliette’s moments of fame as a singer through newspaper clippings. “Retras Larout” is also the title of her newly-released CD, which is a compilation of songs from her 10 albums. Paying tribute to Joennise Juliette’s musical success, Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, said that “Joennise is one Seychellois women who has earned her place in the musical field of our country.”

“I would like to congratulate Joennise Juliette for making this milestone in the musical arena. The cultural scene of Seychelles has evolved, and with it serious artists who believe in this industry. I’ve looked through the impressive collection of photos and press clippings from the 25 years of Joennise Juliette. One amazing photo that has caught my attention is a 1995 snap of Joennise taken during the “Kouler Kreol show” at Stad Popiler in Victoria. This photo will become the first in a collection of Seychellois artists and musicians on the Wall of Fame at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture,” said Minister St.Ange.

Minister St.Ange said that all Seychellois artists should have their place in history. He said this as he appealed to Seychellois artists, past and present, to come forward and help make the musician’s Wall of Fame rich and what Seychelles deserves.
Joennise Juliette’s interest as a singer started in 1987 at the Seychelles National Youth Service. Former cultural animator of the National Youth Service, Andreix Rosalie said that he had witnessed “Joennise’s debut in the musical scene. Joennise was always focused. She portrays the quality of a singer who can inspire women in this field to break all social barriers and come out as a triumph,” said Mr. Rosalie.
Officially opening the exhibition, the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles National Arts Council, Mr. Jimmy Savy congratulated Joennise Juliette for her successful career saying that “she is clearly an example to be followed by other artists.”

The exhibition of photos and media clippings of 25 years of Joennise Juliette remains open at the Carrefour des Arts gallery. The album is on sale at the Gallery, “Kot Do” musical shop and with Joennise Juliette at the National Arts Council.
