Seychelles shows its appreciation to Jean Quatre and his Ballades Seychelloise En Sax music album

Seychelles shows its appreciation to Jean Quatre and his Ballades Seychelloise En Sax music album ( It was a highly-emotional group of known Seychellois musicians who gathered at the Theatre National at Mont Fleuri last Friday to see the launch by Jean Quatre of his “Ballades Seychelloise En Sax” music CD. Also present was Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture; Ms. Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture; Mr. Jimmy Savy, the CEO of the National Arts Council; and Mrs. Raymonde Onezime, the Special Advisor to the Minister.

It was veteran musician, Patrick Victor, who had the honor of retracing the path taken by Jean Quatre to be where he is today. Mr. Victor, one of the most popular Seychelles musicians, reminded the audience of the development of music in Seychelles and of the 1979 Music Festival organized on Mahe and Praslin Islands. Mr. Patrick Victor also saw the need to continue to look at moving the Seychelles music forward using instruments we know well.

Mr. Jimmy Savy, the CEO of the Seychelles National Arts Council, was next to take to the floor and he spoke about the support the council offered to Jean Quatre to ensure his works received the needed encouragement.

Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, was then invited to the podium. The Minister congratulated Jean Quatre for his music CD with a difference. “You have worked hard, and you are today an example for our younger generation to follow. Music is art, and art is for those with the determination to bring out our culture, our feelings, and our way of life for the world to appreciate. There is no shortcut to success in that field, and Jean Quatre is here with his masterpiece because of his tenacity,” Minister St.Ange said.

The Seychelles Minister also spoke about progress we are meant to appreciate after looking at a DVD of a young Jean Quatre performing in the classic attire of a black tie and white long-sleeved shirt and immaculate black trousers. “Your presentation, and your personal grooming speaks volume about you, what you are showcasing, and what you are all about,” Minister St.Ange said as he referred to Seychelles music veterans Patrick Victor, Jean-Marc Volcy, John Wirtz, and others when they took the stage for their performances.

The Jean Quatre “Ballades Seychelloise En Sax” has eleven songs taken from the likes of Patrick Victor, Francois Havelock, John Wirtz, Jenny de Letourdie, Golty Farabeau, David Scholastique, Simon Amade, and Jean Ally and replayed with a new musical arrangement with the saxophone as the main musical instrument.
