Seychelles opens its first Espace du Livre Francophone

Seychelles opens its first Espace du Livre Francophone (Forimmediaterelease.net) Seychelles first “Espace du Livre Francophone” has been officially opened at the National Library in Victoria. The “Espace du livre Francophone” introduces children to a new universe of books and multi-media support.

Officially opened in the presence of the General Manager of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, Clement Duhaime, who was on a one-day working mission in Seychelles, Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, said that the “Espace du livre Francophone” is being opened at an opportune time when the government of Seychelles has established the equilibrium between its three official languages: French, English, and Creole.

“This morning we’ve seen the official opening of the first Espace du Livre Francophone in Seychelles and this was also the world’s first Espace du Livre Francophone. The Seychelles islands are the first beneficiary of this new reading program dedicated for the public offered by the International Organisation of Francophonie with the financial support of Andorra. This new concept will enable the National Library of Seychelles to offer the general public a larger collection of books and multimedia collection in French and Creole which reflects the cultural expressions of La Francophonie,” said Minister St.Ange.

The Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture said that the National Library had a vital role to play in the development of the nation.

“The National Library is the gateway of information for the nation. We are convinced that access to learning and reading remains an integrated universal rights for our children,” said the Minister.

He also explained that the “Espace du Livre Francophone” has achieved its objective of becoming an open space designed for children and adults.

“I am convinced that those who use the National Library will appreciate the availability of resources put at their disposal as part of the Espace du livre Francophone. The library is like a restaurant, the menu is important, the setting important, but it’s the food served that will trigger the clients to come back over and over again. Today we are proud that our National Library is equipped with specific books and with multimedia materials through the ‘Espace de Livre Francophone.’ Our library has achieved its objective of becoming an open space designed in conformity with the expectations of our population. The new consignment of French and Creole books is a new attraction for a facility that remains the meeting point for young people throughout the year,” said Minister St.Ange.

The International Organisation of La Francophonie has pledged another five “Espace du Livre” for Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue in the coming future. The General Manager of International Organisation of La Francophonie, Clement Duhaime, said, “Seychelles diversity is a good example of cooperation between the International Organisation of La Francophonie and a small island state that remains proud of its three languages declared Official Languages of its country.”

Mr. Clement Duhaime said that he is proud to witness a project of the International Organisation of La Francophonie which has become a reality, and which constitutes an important asset for the children and people of Seychelles.
