The Head Master of the Sweden Upper Middle School Midgarsskolan, Mr. Hakan From has formally handed over a batch of laptops and teaching materials to the Culture Department at the office of Ministry of Tourism and Culture

Mr. Hakan From presented a sample of the laptop to Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture during a courtesy call in the presence of the Principal Secretary for Culture, Benjamine Rose and the Director of the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts, Pierre Joseph. The Director of the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts, Pierrre Joseph said that this donation will help the School of Music overcome the shortage of equipment and create a more conducive learning environment for the students. He explained that negotiations for transfer of laptops was discussed and agreed upon in April 2012 when the head master of Midgarsskolan met with the Management team of the School of Music.

“The School of Music will use the donation for the development of our programme. At this point in time the school was trying to introduce a Diploma Course in Music and there was a group of students particularly interested in using Computers for research and documentation” said the Director of the National Conservatoire of Performing Arts. The first batch of laptops arrived in Seychelles after a group of teachers and students from Seychelles visited the Swedish town of Umeå as part of an exchange program in September 2012. This was then followed by the second offer of laptops after the visit of two teachers and two students from Sweden in November of last year.

“It is our hope that students see this gesture as a continuous support to facilitate their work and that they make good use of the equipment to enhance learning as well as to enjoy the multi media applications now easily available online”, said the Director.
