Old Babylonstoren had a farm… and on this farm it has noble wines

Old Babylonstoren had a farm… and on this farm it has noble wines ( “I strive to put the very essence of Babylonstoren in the bottle – simplicity, honesty, diversity, and timelessness,“ states winegrower Charl Coetzee. His winery is part of the farm hotel Babylonstoren, which is situated in the Groot Drakenstein Valley only 60 kilometers away from Cape Town in South Africa. The 300-year-old fruit and vegetable farm, which was formerly founded by Dutch immigrants, is a paradise for nature lovers who have a soft spot for indulgence. In the gardens which equal and owe their name to the biblical gardens of Babylon, juicy fruits, vegetables, and fine herbs are grown. The menu in Restaurant Babel acts in accordance to the seasonal calendar and is always good for a surprise. The farm disposes of 12 suites, which are built in the Cape Dutch style of the 17th and 18th century. Surrounded by vineyards, guests harvest their own fruits and vegetables. The Mourvedre Rose tastes like red fruits. The white Viognier combines complexity and elegance with its apricot and peach flavor. The red Shiraz savors of white pepper, floral and spicy. But these are only some of the facettes of Babylonstoren’s essence. The price for one night in off-season is R 3135 (approximately 261 euro) per person and double occupancy.
