Seychelles Minister says thank you to island’s Tourism Board for an event appreciated by the population

Seychelles Minister says thank you to island’s Tourism Board for an event appreciated by the population ( The Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, used a get together with all the staff of the island’s Tourism Board to say thank you to Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Tourism Board, and all her staff for a successful carnival 2013 which came to a close last weekend.

“The country is proud of each and every one of you. You staged an event where more than 50% of the Seychelles population came out to watch. This is no easy feat, and you should all be proud of not only of your success, but also of your dedication for the continued success of the Seychelles tourism industry,” Minister St.Ange said to the gathered staff.

“Never in the history of our islands has any event been able to pull so many on to the streets of Victoria. You have done well; you coined an event that resonated with the mass, and you staged that same event with professionalism. You now have the right to be happy and proud, because you have done what many can just dream of, that is bringing over 50% of the total population of Seychelles out on to the roads for one event,” the Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture said.

When she welcomed all the staff for the thank you get together, Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, said that that the bank of international press who flew to Seychelles to cover the 2013 carnival will keep the word Seychelles on the newswire, on TV screens, on radio shows, in pages of newspapers, and in magazines for months to come. “Our country’s tourism industry needs increased visibility of our country, and this annual carnival of ours singlehandedly goes a long way to achieving the needed coverage for Seychelles,” Elsia Grandcourt said.

The annual Carnaval International de Victoria that is staged in Seychelles remains the only carnival where the best and the renowned carnivals of the world all parade together alongside cultural groups from the Community of Nations. “Countries are invited to showcase their people, their culture, and their very own USPs - their Unique Selling Points - at the carnival in Seychelles. It is the different Tourism Boards and Departments of Culture of countries from around the world who are invited to send a delegation to the carnival in Seychelles to fly their country’s flag, and get the bank of international press to take notice of your delegation. The cost by each of the governments or their sponsors for the different delegation gets in return access and coverage to more press than any country can get at any of the tourism trade fairs they attend. These tourism trade fairs cost a small fortune, and the fight for press coverage remains intense, but in Seychelles, the large bank of press covering the carnival are all eager to interview delegations showcasing their very own culture, people, and USPs,” the Seychelles Minister said.

The Seychelles tourism authorities said that they have launched a great event for Seychelles, for the region, for Africa at large, and for the world to come together. “The country can only be proud of all of you,” Minister Alain St.Ange said to the staff of the island’s Tourism Board.
