Russian navy ship leads the way in Seychelles during Carnival 2013 in show of solidarity in fight against Somali bandits

Russian navy ship leads the way in Seychelles during Carnival 2013 in show of solidarity in fight against Somali bandits (Forimmediaterelease.net) Russia was again present at the 2013 edition of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival in Seychelles with one of their navy ships. It was the third year running that Russia sent one of their navy ships to Seychelles for the annual carnival. The Russian Navy has always made it clear that they are in Seychelles following the appeal of the island’s Minister for Tourism and Culture to see navy ships from the Community of Nations as a show of solidarity against the presence of Somali bandits on the seas off the coast of Africa attacking cargo and pleasure boats.

India has also been a regular with navy personnel parading in the annual carnival in Seychelles. This year a delegation of Indian Marines were flown to Seychelles to ensure that the Indian navy flag was again flown in the 2013 carnival parade. It is also the third consecutive year that the Indian Navy joins in the parade alongside the Seychelles Armed Forces and the navies from the Community of Nations wanting to be seen to be standing in solidarity with Seychelles and the African and Indian Ocean islands in their ongoing fight against the Somali bandits on the seas of the Indian Ocean.

“I met with Mr. Vitaly I. Tkachev, the Military, Air&Naval Attache at the Embassy of the Russian Federation of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and he reconfirmed that their ship, the “Marshal Shaposhnikov” currently in Port Victoria, was in a public show of solidarity in the region’s fight against the Somali bandits. Mr. Tkachev has again confirmed that as soon as the dates for the 2014 edition of the carnival are set, he would confirm Russia’s presence again and hopefully be represented by two ships,” Minister Alain St.Ange said after his meeting with Mr. Tkachev on the Russian Navy ship “Marshal Shaposhnikov” in Port Victoria.

The 2014 edition of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Island’s Carnival in Seychelles will be held on April 25-27, 2014.

Minister Alain St.Ange has again appealed to the navies of the Community of Nations to consider a stop in Port Victoria on April 25 to be able to walk together in the carnival parade of April 26, and in so doing demonstrate their solidarity with the countries of the Indian Ocean and of Africa in their ongoing fight against the Somali bandits plying the seas of the Indian Ocean off the African coast.
