Reunion-Seychelles islands meet in Port Victoria

Reunion-Seychelles islands meet in Port Victoria ( Following the recent discussions between Pascal Viroleau, the Head of the IRT (Ile Reunion Tourisme), and Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Seychelles tourism has this week welcomed Mr. Didier Robert, the President of the Regional Council of La Reunion for a high-level meeting to discuss inter-island cooperation. The meeting took place in the presence of the newly-accredited French Ambassador to Seychelles, Madame Genevieve Lancu, and a large delegation of tourism personalities from La Reunion.

During the meeting, Mr. Didier Robert congratulated Seychelles for hosting the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival and confirmed that he will be personally heading the La Reunion carnival delegation. Consecutively, this will be the second year that Mr. Didier Robert will be attending the Carnaval International de Victoria. In so doing, he is seen to be bringing out La Reunion’s true involvement in the carnival and in the belief that the Vanilla Islands partnership can only work through solidarity between the islands.

The President of the Regional Council of La Reunion reiterated that the Carnaval International de Victoria constitutes a “major asset in the promotion of the Vanilla Islands” and that the Indian Ocean islands can benefit from this very high-profile manifestation “if they rallied their forces together.” He explained that as a co-host country, the “La Reunion tourism industry stands to win and La Reunion’s tourism continues to grow as a tourism destination in the Indian Ocean.”

President Didier Robert, who was heading a strong delegation from the Tourism Office of La Reunion, explained that La Reunion is “ready for the third edition of Carnaval International de Victoria.” A large carnival delegation, together with Miss Reunion, will be landing in Seychelles for the carnival. Miss La Reunion will be joining “Miss Seychelles…another world” Sherlyn Furneau as co-host beauty queens in front of the carnival procession.

In the presence of the newly-accredited French Ambassador to Seychelles, Madame Genevieve Lancu, Minister Alain St.Ange acknowledged that President Didier Robert’s presence in Victoria is sending out a strong message that “the Vanilla Islands concept” is becoming more solid as its event, the Carnaval International de Victoria, grows stronger year after year.

The meeting with Ambassador Lancu and Mr. Didier Robert was also attended by the newly-appointed Principal Secretary of Tourism, Mrs. Sherin Renaud; the Principal Secretary of Culture, Ms. Benjamine Rose; and the Special Advisor to the Minister, Mrs. Raymonde Onezime.
