President of Vanilla Islands, Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles, congratulates Mauritius for reiterating the call for Maldives to join the Indian Ocean Regional Organization

President of Vanilla Islands, Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles, congratulates Mauritius for reiterating the call for Maldives to join the Indian Ocean Regional Organization (Forimmediaterelease.net) Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, has congratulated Mauritius for reiterating the call by the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Regional Organization for Maldives to join the Vanilla Islands. Minister St.Ange of the Seychelles was referring to the article on “Ile Maurice Tourisme” which stated that the President of the MTPA of Mauritius, Robert Desvaux, who formed part of an official delegation to meet with the Maldives President was led by Mr. Xavier-Luc Duval, the Mauritian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

At a Vanilla Islands Regional Organization meeting held in La Reunion, it was voted to formally invite Maldives to join the organization that is today regrouping Seychelles, Mauritius, La Reunion, Madagascar, Comoros, and Mayotte. The motion to admit Maldives was submitted by Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister who is also the sitting President of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Regional Organization. When he tabled the proposition on the Maldives, the Seychelles Minister said that the Indian Ocean would be stronger when every island destination of the region who was actively promoting tourism all joined the Vanilla Islands. Minister St.Ange had said that the Maldives was a successful and recognized tourism destination and that it would be beneficial to have them as a member of the Vanilla Islands.

Following that meeting in La Reunion, Minister Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles met with Mr. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, the Maldivian Minister responsible for Tourism, at the World Travel Market (WTM) Tourism Trade Fair in London and officially wrote to Maldives to confirm the London meeting which saw Maldives accept the proposition to take their place as a Vanilla Islands member.

The Seychelles Minister has been advocating that it was also time for the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Regional Organization to invite Sri Lanka and Zanzibar to also join the Regional Organization. “Together we have diversity, we have a unique tourism offer, but we need to be united,” said Minister St.Ange.

“This is why we salute Mauritius to have reiterated the call by the regional body for Maldives to join the Vanilla Islands. They are right when they stated that the region would be strengthened if all tourism islands from our part of the world were seen working together under the Vanilla Islands banner. Mauritius is right to have echoed this Vanilla Islands vision, and we are hoping that at our next meeting we can move to approve inviting Sri Lanka and Zanzibar to also join in,” Minister Alain St.Ange said.
