Seychelles music award a real red carpet affair ( Seychelles hosted its first music award honoring and rewarding local artistes who have left their prints in the musical arena for the past year

It is Ambitious’ outstanding achievements that captured the award for the Best Recording Artist of the Year. He grabbed the title from Mercenary, Curious, KJ and Ion Kid, the nominees of this category. Sandra clinched the outstanding award for the Best Female Recording Artist of the Year. Telsy, Angelique, Rahna Jules and Angel were the other nominees in this category.

Highness was up for the Best New Male Recording Artist of the Year relegating A Plus and JPD to the second and third position.

Rahna Jules made it to the forefront position taking the trophy and cash prize for the Best New Female Artist of the Year. The award for the Best Performing Group/Duet Recording Artists of the Year was won by Curious and HB.

The runaway success of the event was enough to convince the music award judges to vote for Angelique’s best hit “Kouler Vanille” as the Best Sega Recording of the Year. She was competing against “Lanmen Anler” by Island Vibration, “Fo Promes” by Extra Big and KJ, “Mon’n Kontan Ou” by Sandra and “Aste Ou Mete” by Francois Havelock and Elijah.

The popular veteran artist John Wirtz scored the highest mark by capturing the Honorary Award for Artists born between 1940-1950.

The nominees were Celine Dine, Despilly William, Jeanne Legge, Douglas Cedras and David Philoe. Presenting the trophy (the shape of a Zez – a local traditional instrument) to the award recipients, Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture congratulated the winners for their achievements.

He gave his blessing for the hosting of the event, and said that the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Seychelles Tourism Board will work to get the island’s prestigious award to gain international recognition and also to get it the necessary international coverage.

The spectacular show was hosted by Gustave de Commarmond, and was attended by the Benjamine Rose, the Principal Secretary for Culture, and Jimmy Savy, the Chief Executive of National Arts Council. The Music Award main sponsor was Seychelles Breweries Limited and the co-sponsor was Laguna Lounge.
