Oases of tranquility: chapels and prayer rooms for the world’s major religions at Frankfurt Airport

Oases of tranquility: chapels and prayer rooms for the world’s major religions at Frankfurt Airport ( Salam, shalom, peace - members of all three of the world’s major faiths are invited to feel at home at Frankfurt Airport. Christians, Muslims, and Jews can find chapels and prayer rooms in both terminals: oases of tranquility amid the hustle and bustle at Germany’s largest airport.

An attention-getter is the “mobile church pew” of the Protestant mission at the airport, on loan from the Lutheran congregation in Frankfurt, which is regularly placed in the transit zone. The minister and vicar and their team of volunteers are happy to welcome travelers from all over the world.

The chapel and prayer rooms in Terminal 1 are located in the publicly accessible pre-security area and easy to find. The chapel of the Protestant and Roman Catholic airport missions is in Concourse B (Level 3, Departures). Services, prayers, and concerts regularly take place there. The mission offices are very nearby and open daily for travelers and employees. Just a few steps away, Muslims gather for the Jumu’ah or Friday prayer, and during Ramadan also to end their daily fasts. Practically next door is a Jewish prayer room, and adjacent to it an Orthodox Christian prayer room has also been set up.

Terminal 2 also features a chapel and prayer rooms. They are located in the transit zone on Level 3 of Pier D. Over the next few weeks, 3 additional facilities will open in the B-West transit zone of Terminal 1. Transfer passengers will then also be able to pray undisturbed in a place of silence. All chapels and prayer rooms at Frankfurt Airport are open 24/7.

The additional chapel and prayer rooms are part of the “Great to have you here!” service program that Frankfurt Airport launched to introduce a wide range of improvements designed to make it even more comfortable and convenient to fly in and out of Germany’s largest airport. In 2011, Frankfurt Airport welcomed more than 56 million passengers.
