Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture ends series of staff meeting on a positive note

Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture ends series of staff meeting on a positive note (Forimmediaterelease.net) Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, ended his Ministry’s series of staff meetings on a positive note as he urged staff of the Seychelles Tourism Academy to remain abreast with the latest training trends and techniques to be adopted for the opening of the first phase of the state-of-the-art Seychelles Tourism Academy in 2013.

Chairing the last meeting in the series of his Ministry’s staff meeting at Seychelles Tourism Academy campus, Minister St.Ange acknowledged the importance of investing in personnel by means of relevant training.

The Minister urged workers to spend time with the HR Department in their end of year appraisal to identify their further training development needs as that remains vital to the long term success of the Academy.

“The success of the state of the art Tourism Academy would depend on a highly-motivated team of workers that remain committed to building an exemplary institution and delivering excellent education programs,” said Minister St.Ange.

Commenting on staff demands for the institution to conduct periodic training needs assessment to ensure that it keeps its programs abreast with the changing training and capacity development needs and improve the quality of the existing curriculum through regular reviews and updates, the Minister responded that it is fundamental that trainings offered at the Academy to students translated to expected results.

“Today’s technology in tourism industry is a significant driver behind change. Staff exposure in the trade is becoming increasingly vital for training development,” said Minister St.Ange.

Staff of Seychelles Tourism Academy overwhelmingly agreed that the country as a whole needed to consider a mindset change on training offered at the institution.

Similarly they spoke about further strengthening of the language lab at the Academy and suggested the introduction of English for Specific Purpose (ESP) to cater to the students at the Academy.

Various pertinent points were also raised among staff of the Academy such as relooking at the salary grid of students on apprentice program, staff with long-term service being recognized in the existing National Education Staff Awards, and salary reviews for workers to operate in the new Academy.

Present for the last in the series of staff meetings was the Principal of the Academy, Mr. Flavien Joubert; managers of the Seychelles Tourism Board; and Special Advisor to the Minister, Mrs. Raymonde Onezime.

Since December 3, Minister St.Ange embarked on a series of staff meetings with the aim of remaining connected to his ministry’s staff and listen to their concerns, to their needs, and to their aspirations. Constructive criticisms and positive points came out of these meetings. Recommendations will be taken up at the ministry’s management meeting.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture will close the year with a general staff meeting on December 17, 2012 at the ICCS Conference Centre in Victoria.

Speaking at the end of the last meeting in this series of staff meetings, Minister Alain St.Ange said that staying connected with all staff remained important to him. “The successes of our ministry are the combined efforts of each and every one working in the ministry. As we met in sectorial meetings, we saw and appreciated the team members who make the Ministry of Tourism and Culture what it is today. We heard from everyone, and they got our point of view on each of the points raised. The meetings were a total success, and staff from each section of the ministry said so openly as they said thank you for organizing the meetings and for making the time to meet with them. We all believe that we have benefited from these series of meetings,” Minister St.Ange said.
