Seychelles countdown to the 2013 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria is officially launched

Seychelles countdown to the 2013 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria is officially launched (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles islands officially launched the 2013 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria with a spectacular ceremony that took place on November 30, 2012 at the Tequilla Boom Night Club. The countdown has become a customary component of the carnival since it was initiated in 2011, building up the momentum leading to the three days of carnival fun in the Seychelles islands.

The countdown of the 2013 Carnaval International de Victoria was officially launched by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Mr. Alain St.Ange, accompanied by the Seychelles Tourism Board CEO, Mrs. Elsia Grandcourt. Also attending the event was the Minister for Home Affairs and Transport, Mr. Joel Morgan, and a number of governmental officials, as well as partners and sponsors of the event.

Addressing the guests, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Elsia Grandcourt, gave a warm opening speech saying that she strongly believed that Seychelles, with its wonderful integrated multi-ethnic population, positive vibe, and spontaneous joie de vivre, is a natural home of a carnival such as theirs.

“The Carnaval International de Victoria is a wonderful statement of cross-border friendship and international good will and camaraderie at a moment of great international tension. Perhaps, this is the reason this carnival continues to capture the imagination of so many people across the world,” said Mrs. Grandcourt.

She also urged everyone to participate in the carnival and to support it, because this is after all, the region’s carnival.

“It is also a great opportunity for every Seychellois to get involved in the carnival to better understand and appreciate the island’s tourism industry which is so important to the Seychelles economy and to the prosperity of our nation,” added Mrs. Grandcourt.

In line with Mrs. Grandcourt’s opening address, the Seychelles Minister of Tourism and Culture, Minister Alain St.Ange, gave an opening speech that was very heart-warming and full of gratitude.

“We have come so very far since that time, more than two years ago now, when we first took up the challenge of organizing our very own carnival after 40 years, to, once again, take up the mantle of bringing a carnival to its natural home, to a place it belongs,” said Minister St.Ange.

On the same note, Minister St.Ange’s official address, touched on the emotion that the carnival brings: “The excitement, spontaneity, and the joie de vivre are very much what we are about as a people, and what we can offer better than many of our competitors.

“This carnival is also about the involvement of each of us, because our individual personal contribution to our carnival in much the same way as we must see tourism, not as some impersonal activity which takes place somewhere out there, but as something more personal to each of us, and something which cries out to us to take ownership of and responsibility for.”

In the Minister’s closing statement, he urged the Seychellois to take ownership of their carnival 2013.

“I appeal to you all, and to all Seychellois, to make it an even greater success than the ones that went before, so that Seychelles, despite our small size and scheme of things can once again, for three days, set an example of what goodwill and friendship can achieve in a world increasingly consumed by turmoil,” Minister St.Ange said.

There were also various artistic performances for the event. Ten prizes were presented to artists who have produced the best songs which will be used to produce a carnival compilation CD and official songs for this third edition of the event. The launching of the carnival also set off the sales of the carnival souvenirs; the branded carnival t-shirts, caps, and bags; as well as the Carnival CD with the 10 winning songs.

The launch of the countdown was also celebrated with a cocktail, after which a Masquerade-themed evening had been organized for the public, which was set to get the buzz and excitement going for the event.

The 2013 edition of the Carnival will be held between February 8-10 in Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, and is being co-hosted by Seychelles, La Reunion, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe.
