New cohort of Seychelles Tourism and Hospitality Management degree course students receives encouragement from Minister for Tourism on his visit at the Tourism Academy

New cohort of Seychelles Tourism and Hospitality Management degree course students receives encouragement from Minister for Tourism on his visit at the Tourism Academy (Forimmediaterelease.net) First year students awaiting the commencement of a four-year degree course in Tourism&Hospitality Management are at the Seychelles Tourism Academy to pursue a three-week intensive practical training in basic food production, restaurant and bar service, and housekeeping. The aim of the intensive training is to prepare the new students for a three-and-a-half-month internship in various hotel establishments around the islands starting from December to March 2013.

Twenty-two students are at the Tourism Academy to follow the Hospitality Management course run in partnership with Shannon College of Hotel Management in Ireland. The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, on a familiarization visit at the Tourism Academy campus at La Misere, met with the course intake to wish them good luck in their endeavor and to welcome them to the hospitality and tourism world. The students are following night classes starting from 1500 hours to 2300 hours.

The Principal of Seychelles Tourism Academy, Flavien Joubert, said, “The scheduling of these classes is conducive to the student’s future working conditions whereby it will be required of them to work [this] shift."

Upon completion of their internship, these students will be back at the Tourism Academy to start their three-year degree course from April 1, 2013. It was in 2009 that the Seychelles Tourism Academy introduced the three-year Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management (ADHM) to provide students with a firm academic and practical foundation and the confidence required for a career in the tourism industry.

In 2010, the University of Seychelles and Seychelles Tourism Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding launching its new degree program in Tourism and Hospitality management, and both organizations are following the development of this latest cohort of young Seychellois students as they enter training to enter the industry that remains the pillar of the Seychelles economy.
