New Creole books launched during Seychelles Festival Kreol 2012

New Creole books launched during Seychelles Festival Kreol 2012 ( Six new publications in Creole by Seychellois authors were launched at Lenstiti Kreol (Creole Institute) during the Festival Kreol activity “Anba Moulapa.”
The name of the activity, which in English means “Under the Baobab Tree,” was chosen for its traditional merit whereby stories were once told under the Baobab, thus a suitable name for the literary activity.

The publications ranged from small stories, romance, children’s books, and religion.

The new publications are “Lema Paviyon,” a short story by Bernard Valentin; Arzette Radegonde’s romance “Dezyenm sans;” Lise Morel’s children’s collection, “Mon ti a kontan vwar;” Colette Gillieaux’s children’s collection, “Larantre;” Penda Choppy’s book for adolescents, “Bingo;” Regina Melanie’s “Remor;” and “Liv Ezai” by the Seychelles Bible Society.

Each author gave a brief description of their books and how they became inspired to write them. They also signed several copies of their publications which they presented to representatives of the National Literary Archives.

Pastor Bijoux explained that “Liv Ezai” forms part of the society’s effort to translate the Bible in Creole, something he said, should be encouraged as the Bible has up to now been translated in several languages and is still being translated to accommodate for a worldwide audience and that Seychelles should not be an exception.

“Anba Moulapa,” which ended in a reception where the authors mingled with the guests, was animated by Seychellois musical group “The Lights.” Guests were also able to buy copies of the signed books.
