Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a, Kuwait: leader in sustainability achieves Green Globe Re-certification

Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a, Kuwait: leader in sustainability achieves Green Globe Re-certification (Forimmediaterelease.net) LOS ANGELES, California - Green Globe announced re-certification of Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a in Kuwait. For years this luxury hotel has been engaged in numerous environmental activities, following Moevenpick Hotels & Resorts corporate responsibility business strategy.

“We are thrilled to be re-certified for the second year in a row,” said Maged Gubr, General Manager at the Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a, “This achievement will have a very positive impact on our hotel operation and will encourage us to go for greener initiatives and raise awareness on sustainability issues in Kuwait. Our property has established a reputation for being involved with many local and international charities. We were the first hotel in the country to organize a recycling competition for all schools in Kuwait. The brief was to produce a functional sculpture made of 100% recycled materials. This competition was aimed to sensitize the younger generation to sustainability issues, inspiring to care for the environment at home and at school. We also encourage our guests to minimize their footprint, get involved in our sustainability programs, and join local activities promoting awareness.”

The Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a implemented a long-term sustainability management system, and energy goals are monitored on a monthly basis. A comprehensive water consumption policy is in effect, and the hotel also captures rainwater for use. Water-saving devices and energy-saving light bulbs are installed throughout the property. Preference is given to environmentally-responsible service suppliers, such as alternative fuel taxis or bicycle rentals. All consumable goods are local, fair trade, and eco-certified products are purchased where possible. A strict reuse and recycle policy is in place, and packaging is reduced to a minimum. A special Green Team facilitates and maintains sustainability initiatives in accordance with the company’s green policy.

Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, said: “We are extremely pleased to award re-certification to the Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a in Kuwait. This property sets a wonderful example with their sustainable practices. Kuwait faces many environmental problems, and the region’s marine environment is under considerable pressure from the effects of the dumping of oil and by-products during the Gulf War. Some of the world’s largest desalination plants are being operated here, since the country has only limited natural freshwater resources available. ‘Going Green’ is the motto of Kuwait’s Green Line Environmental Group, working hard to protect their natural surroundings and educate the community. Moevenpick Hotels and Resorts is one of the largest hotel groups to commit to Green Globe Certification for all properties worldwide.”

The audit for the Moevenpick Hotel Al Bida’a was conducted by Farnek Avireal, lead sustainable consultancy in the MENA region. For additional information, please contact Sandrine Le Biavant, e-mail: href="mailto:Sandrine.LeBiavant@farnek.com">Sandrine.LeBiavant@farnek.com .
