A New Seychelles book on the island’s unique coco-de-mer goes to print

A New Seychelles book on the island’s unique coco-de-mer goes to print ( In response to the need for more books about Seychelles’ natural attributes, the Minister for Tourism&Culture, Alain St.Ange, in collaboration with the known Seychelles author and copywriter, Glynn Burridge, and graphics designer, Olivia Alvis, has produced a new book on the Seychelles much sought-after icon, the coco-de-mer.

The 32-page, full-color, coffee table-styled book, entitled “Seychelles, The Coco-De-Mer - A National Treasure,” takes readers on a tour through the colorful history of the world’s heaviest seed, from the time it was first discovered washed up on the shores of Indian Ocean countries, giving birth to the legend that it was the fruit of some fabulous underwater tree, hence giving it the name coco-de-mer.

The new book is the third in a planned series of books on Seychelles, which started with “Seychelles, The 2010 Regatta,” which covered the islands’ setting for competitive sailing regattas. The second book in the series was “Seychelles, Enters the World of Carnival,” covering the first edition of the “Carnaval International de Victoria,” which took place in March 2011.

“It is important that we reinforce our culture with this kind of publication,” stated Alain St.Ange, the author of the book, “because relatively little has been done to date to allow readers to discover the magic of the Seychelles islands through literature, and this is something we shall now be putting to right.”

The book, which has already been allocated the ISBN number 978-9931-005-5, is expected to go to print in a matter of weeks.
