Darryl Joubert wins Seychelles’ School Photographic Competition twice in a row ( The young and talented Seychellois teenager from Anse Boileau Secondary School, Darryl Joubert, is twice winner of the Seychelles’ annual School’s Photographic Competition as his photograph succeeds once more to make an impression on the judges.

This photographic competition for Seychelles’ school kids was first launched in 2011 on the occasion of the country’s 40th anniversary of tourism by the Seychelles Tourism Board.

Winner of the first edition of the competition, 15-year-old Darryl Joubert has this time won the competition with his snapshot of two young girls sitting along the Praslin island jetty with an amazing sunset in the background that is entitled “Where Harmony Begins.” He describes the image as “At a time when we thought that all were lost to technologies, we see two young girls sharing a harmonious moment together with a golden sunset.”

As the winner of the competition, Daryl receives the cash prize of R10,000, which has been sponsored by the Seychelles Tourism Ambassador in Zambia, Jimmy Butt, who from the onset of organizing the competition had confirmed his commitment to sponsor 3 editions.

This year’s competition was being held under the theme “Where Harmony Is A Way of Life.” It is opened to school kids between the ages of 12 and 16 years. Photo entries were judged based on 5 criteria: originality, relevance to the theme&the story behind the theme, image quality, captivating&enticing nature of the image, and finally its usability in a tourism campaign.

The judging panel was made up of 5 members, comprising Shane Emilie of the Environmental Education Unit of the Ministry of Education; the Principal Secretary for Culture, Benjamine Rose; Seychelles Tourism Board representative, Line Mancienne; Mierra Savy serving as a public eye; and Photographer Steve Nibourette.

Speaking about this year’s competition, the Seychelles Tourism Board Senior Coordinator for Events, Sharon Francois, has said that despite having more entries last year, the photos submitted for this second edition are of greater quality and holds more creativity.

“The competition demonstrates much talent and skill from our young participants, promising Seychelles with its next generation of brilliant photographers,” said Ms. Francois.

“The fact that Daryl is a twice winner of the competition, despite a new batch of judges this year, in itself is impressive and very encouraging,” added Ms. Francois.
