Iberia signs maintenance contracts with Uruguay`s Pluna ( The Spanish company will conduct A-type inspections of a Boeing B-767 and maintenance of the RB-211-535E4 engines of a Boeing B-757.
Iberia has signed an exclusive contract with the Pluna company under which it will carry out A-type inspections of a Boeing B-767 flown by the Uruguayan carrier at its Madrid maintenance shops. The contract has a one-year duration.

The A-type inspection, normally carried out after every 500 flying hours, is a general inspection of all aircraft systems, components, and structures, both interior and exterior, to verify their integrity.

Under a separate agreement, Iberia’s maintenance division will maintain and overhaul the Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engines on one of Pluna’s Boeing B-757s. Iberia is the sole European company qualified to inspect and repair this type of engine.

Founded in 1936, Pluna is Uruguay’s leading airline, and flies to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Paraguay, and domestic destinations. In recent years it has been modernising and expanding its fleet, which now consists of six aircraft.

Iberia Maintenance has broad experience in the maintenance of airframes, engines, and components. In addition to the Iberia fleet, it serves more than 100 clients throughout the world, including numerous airlines. In 2006 it inspected 971 aircraft, 134 engines, 45 auxiliary power units, and 53,988 components. It is now pursuing the strategic objective of doubling income from external clients in the 2006-2008 period, chiefly by providing more specialised and high added-value maintenance, repair, and engineering services.
