International Aviation Fire Protection Conference Opens in Singapore

(Forimmediaterelease.net) Over 120 delegates from around the world representing aircraft rescue and fire fighting services, regulators, airport operators and aircraft accident investigators are gathered in Singapore to attend the International Aviation Fire Protection Association (IAFPA) Conference from 16 to 18 October 2007. This two and a half day Conference, co-hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), will cover issues ranging from airport fire service safety management systems to airport operational readiness.

Since its formation in 2000, IAFPA has provided an invaluable platform for all associated stakeholders to come together to discuss and exchange information on the latest developments in aircraft rescue and fire fighting, as well as airport facility protection.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Lim Kim Choon, Director-General&Chief Executive Officer, CAAS said, “Aircraft rescue and fire fighting service is a key function in an airport's operations. Besides the tactical response in the event of an aircraft incident, the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting service at an airport plays a key role in coordinating response and resources among various parties including air traffic control, security agencies and mutual aid agencies."

Ahead of the IAFPA Conference yesterday was the G7 Meeting of Aviation Fire Chiefs and the Regulators' Meeting, which saw chief fire officers from some of the world's busiest airports' aircraft rescue and firefighting services, as well as airport regulators from the world's leading airport authorities, coming together to discuss issues and developments in the industry.
