Seychelles in discussions with Samba School of Brazil for next Carnaval International de Victoria

Seychelles in discussions with Samba School of Brazil for next Carnaval International de Victoria (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles delegation currently in Brazil for the Explore South Africa Road Show 2012 has been meeting with the Samba School of Sao Paulo of Brazil to discuss Brazil’s participation at the 2013 Carnaval International de Victoria that is held annually in Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles.

It is Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, who is personally heading the Seychelles delegation on this South America working mission. Minister St.Ange was accompanied at the meeting by Mr. Daniel Okamoto, the Executive Director of one of the most known Samba Schools; by Mr. David Germain, the Seychelles Tourism Board’s Director for Africa and the Americas; Mr. Luiz Picollo, the Seychelles Consul in Brazil; and Mrs. Gisele Abrahao of the GVA Tourism Company of Sao Paulo Brazil.

Discussions centered on the participation of a delegation of dancers and drummers from Brazil at the 2013 carnival in Seychelles and at carnivals annually from then on. “The interest for Brazil to be at the annual ‘Carnival of Carnivals’ in Seychelles is there. We need to see about all possible sponsorships as we are in Brazil and then come to an agreement preferably before the end of our stay in Brazil. The Samba School is keen to travel to Seychelles to showcase the Brazilian expertise and their carnival tradition in the world of carnivals. They seem also eager to be parading with the best and most popular carnivals of the world alongside the cultural troupes from the Community of Nations,” said Minister St.Ange at the end of his first meeting with the Brazilian Samba School, who has big delegations at the annual Brazilian Carnival and who also sends carnival delegations to participate in different carnivals across the world.

For 2013, the request made by Seychelles is for a delegation of twenty from Brazil to travel to Seychelles for the Carnaval International de Victoria.

The Carnaval International de Victoria is held annually in Seychelles, and it is already confirmed that for the 2013 edition, the carnival will be co-hosted by Seychelles, La Reunion, Madagascar, and Mayotte. “We are waiting for resolutions from a few discussions already in place before finalizing these details and before firming up the list of co-hosts and the program. Mrs. Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Tourism Board, and Mrs. Marymonde Matatiken, the Manager of the Celebrate Seychelles Events Department at the Tourism Board, are working on the final draft of the carnival brochure, and these should be ready to go soon,” Minister Alain St.Ange said.
