Participating is winning says Seychelles Minister as Miss World 2012 is crowned

Participating is winning says Seychelles Minister as Miss World 2012 is crowned ( Seychelles was present at the 2012 Miss World Beauty Pageant in China, and Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of their Tourism Board, accompanied by Marymonde Matatiken, the Manager of the Celebrate Seychelles Events Department at the Tourism Board, and her assistant Sharon Francois, and Jean-Luc LaiLam, the Manager of the Seychelles Tourism Board's China Office, had all traveled to Ordos to support Sherlyn Furneau, the 2012 “Miss Seychelles…another world” as she displayed the mid-ocean tropical island's flag at the beauty pageant in China.

Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Tourism Board, and her team were seen flying their Seychelles banner at Ordos to ensure visibility of their island paradise.

It was at this very same Miss World Pageant that Miss China was elected Miss World 2012, but that did not stop Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture to issue a statement to congratulate Sherlyn Furneau on her participation and saying that the country was proud of her.

“Participating is winning. Otherwise you sit and just dream that this could have been otherwise. We were with Miss Seychelles on her road to China, and we stand with her now that the 2012 Miss World results are out. She remains our Miss Seychelles 2012 and will be invited to continue to be with the Tourism Board in their work to make Seychelles more visible in the four corners of the world," Minister Alain St.Ange said.

This has been the first year since the Seychelles Tourism Board has taken over the organization of the island's beauty pageant. Before that it was organized by different NGOs but was not regular and left the islands with a reigning Miss Seychelles for three to four years at a time.

“The Miss Seychelles Pageant is now part of the events list of our islands, and it will be organized on an annual basis. We are, as a people, the melting pot of cultures, and we shall proudly open doors for our young beauty queens through our beauty pageant," Minister St.Ange said.

The Minister also thanked Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Tourism Board, and her Celebrate Seychelles Events Department, which is headed by Marymonde Matatiken, for all their dedication to the Miss Seychelles cause. “The job has been well done," the Minister said.
