The Mauritian Minister for Arts and Culture creates media buzz in Seychelles ( The presence of the Mauritius Minister for Arts and Culture in Seychelles has created a media buzz in Seychelles local press, in the Indian Ocean region and foreign press.

In an open statement to the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) on La Digue island during the August 15 Feast of the Assumption, Minister Mookhesswur Choonee of Mauritius reiterated on the benchmark set by President James Michel of Seychelles and the Mauritian Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, for the two islands to unite and to work together in the spirit of bilateral partnerships.

He said that it is now the task of the cabinet ministers of the two respective islands to build on that undertaking made by the leaders of the two islands, and to come out with concrete actions in their specific portfolios to move forward this essential inter island cooperation.

“We share common specificities as small island states. We should tell the world what we are, and in so doing, gain the respect we deserved as developing island states. We have a role to play as policy makers and leaders, and it is only by working together that we can achieve common objectives,” Minister Choonee said in his interview on SBC Radio that was also streamed live.

The interview was recorded in a pre-fabricated and temporary, open air studio at La Passe Jetty on La Digue island and was broadcast nationwide. This special studio provided for an interactive and animated show between Seychelles’ well-known presenters, Minister Choonee of Mauritius and Minister St.Ange from the Seychelles.

From print media to audio visual recordings, the official visit of the Mauritian Minister for Arts and Culture was given extensive publicity.
