PEPY Tours Founder Featured Adventure Travel World Summit Speaker ( Daniela Papi, founder and CEO of PEPY Tours, will be a featured speaker at The Adventure Travel Trade Association’s (ATTA) third annual Adventure Travel World Summit in Whistler, British Columbia, October 4-7, 2007. Assembling at the Summit ( are adventure travel pioneers and experts from five continents and diverse disciplines and approximately 500 adventure travel business leaders.

Future consumers, purposeful-travel trends, and leading-edge destinations headline the Summit, themed “Conversion: Transforming Possibility into Reality.” The event presenters will provide a valuable array of perspectives aimed at challenging conventions of the global adventure travel community. Along with Papi, Alfredo Ferreyros, President of Explorandes in Peru, and Monique Rodrigues of Cortez Travel in Madagascar, will present strategic insights on community-based tourism projects. Drawing from her experiences in Cambodia, Papi will focus on best practices for incorporating voluntourism and community outreach into tours, with an emphasis on sustainability and increasing social returns on investment.

Keynote addresses, session forums, workshops, panels and roundtables aim to equip Summit delegates with tools to convert lookers into buyers and customers into advocates. Through productive debate, dialogue and collaboration with the presenters, the Summit sessions will give industry executives and decision makers new ideas on how to better their businesses and serve travelers, as well as to promote responsible adventure tourism, and optimize the industry’s market potential.

“Papi was selected for her ability to address cutting edge issues and solutions that adventure tour operators, tourism boards, specialty agents and related businesses require to keep pace with this rapidly evolving industry,” said ATTA Director Chris Doyle. Papi is a leader in the growing voluntourism movement, previously speaking at the UNEP Sports and Environment Meeting and as a guest lecturer on the Peace Boat. Her experience in the field has provided a broad perspective on grassroots development and the issues facing operators offering tours in this expanding market.

Papi, who serves as founder and CEO of PEPY Tours, specializes in sustainable and socially responsible adventure tourism. PEPY Tours is a unique organization that blends adventure travel with short-term volunteer experiences, and focuses on improving educational opportunities in Cambodia. PEPY tours’ endeavor is to provide travelers with a responsible and culturally rich way to experience Cambodia, while allowing them to give back to the communities they visit. The volunteer efforts and funds raised from PEPY Tours support the development programs of their partner organization, The PEPY Ride. To date, The PEPY Ride has donated over $200,000 in support of ongoing education and environmental projects in Cambodia.

“Networking with adventure travel leaders at this Summit is an ideal way to advance community-based tourism, and sustainability practices,” said Papi. “This gathering of the industry’s who’s who gives us all a chance to think about our respective businesses and how we can work together in this new age of adventure travel.”
