Seychelles High Commissioner to India and Tourism and Culture Minister meet to discuss approach for marketing in India

Seychelles High Commissioner to India and Tourism and Culture Minister meet to discuss approach for marketing in India ( Just days after the visit of the Indian President to Seychelles, the new High Commissioner of the Seychelles in India, Waven William, called on the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, to discuss areas of cooperation for marketing Seychelles in India.

The Seychelles Tourism Board has earmarked India as their next market to target but said that they need to relook at air connectivity at the same time. Minister St.Ange discussed with High Commissioner William the feedback received from Mrs. Elsia Grandcourt, the CEO of the Tourism Board, as she held discussions last week with tour operators and airlines attending the ATM Tourism Trade Fair in Dubai. The Tourism Board CEO was re-echoing the need for Seychelles to move on India.

Seychelles High Commissioner William said: “Tourism has become one of India’s fastest-growing industries contributing to the wealth of the country, and it is today recognized that tour operators in India have the potential to woo travelers to the Seychelles.”

“Seychelles has the potential to tap into the Indian market and open up new grounds of cooperation between the two countries,” High Commissioner William said.

In the presence of the Advisor to the Minister, Raymonde Onezime, High Commissioner William extended an invitation for a culture group from Seychelles to come to India in October 2012 to stage a cultural performance.

High Commissioner William said that “the presence of the cultural group will provide a wider spectrum of entertainment and an opportunity to showcase Seychelles through a different avenue. The artists can also use that visit to explore new artistic concepts as they continue to look for perfection in their own traditional performances.”

The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, said that the “Seychelles is known to have its own distinctive culture rooted in our unique tradition, which we should be proud to exhibit on the international scene.”

High Commissioner William spoke strongly about reinforcing Seychelles’ presence through road shows in India, saying that this remained an area where more could easily be done to increase visibility of the islands. He also sought the Minister's support to have a Tourism Attaché in the Seychelles High Commission in Delhi saying that this would assist to give more visibility to the Seychelles market to potential visitors and support to tour operators and travel agents.
