Boney M lead singer Liz Mitchell in the Seychelles islands

Boney M lead singer Liz Mitchell in the Seychelles islands ( The lead vocalist and the only original member of the group that led the disco era of the late 1970s, “Boney M,” has left the Seychelles after a private visit to perform one of her best tracks in a private function in the Seychelles Islands.

Liz Mitchell and her four group members, which now perform under the label of “Boney M,” arrived in the Seychelles after staging a concert in the South Korean capital.

The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, personally welcomed the group to the Seychelles upon their arrival at the Pointe Larue International Airport.

A keen follower of the 60s and 70s legends, Minister St.Ange paid tribute to Boney M’s lead singer and said that “he is honored to welcome a group which was hugely popular during the disco era of the late 1970s, and whose songs like By the Rivers of Babylon, Daddy Cool, Brown Girl in the Ring, No Woman No Cry, Painter Man, Mary’s Boy Child, Rasputin, Ma Baker, It’s a Holiday, and Sunny, which combines Jamaican tunes with disco music, has had notable success internationally and in the Seychelles Islands.”

Minister St.Ange also took the opportunity to hold discussions with the group in regards to their participation in 2013 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria, which will again be held in Seychelles from February 8-10, 2013.

Lead singer Liz Mitchell who is almost in her 60s and still possesses a distinctive voice said that “although the original lineup of Boney M has changed over the years, her mission is to revive the lyrics and music of Boney M for the audience.”

It is the first time that the lead singer of “Boney M” and her group members came to Seychelles. Elsia Grandcourt, CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, also met with Liz Mitchell and her group.

Liz Mitchell compared the Seychelles islands to that of the Caribbean and said that she is impressed with the “beauty of the islands and the diversity of its people.”

The “Boney M” group spent two nights in Seychelles. On their departure at the Seychelles International Airport, they said that they are “looking forward to being invited back to the Seychelles islands and this time on a much longer visit.”
