Multi-Million Dollar Retail Expansion Presents 16 New Retailers to Open at Ala Moana Center

( HONOLULU – Ala Moana Center, the world’s largest outdoor shopping center, announced today the names of 16 new retailers that will join the mall as part of its multi-million dollar retail expansion project. The major expansion is projected to add approximately 30 new stores situated on a two-level retail concourse that will connect the existing mall to Hawaii’s first full-line Nordstrom department store. When complete, the project will add approximately 300,000 square feet of new retail to the center, increasing its size to just over 2.1 million square feet of retail space. Nordstrom and a number of the center’s new merchants are slated to open their doors for business on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 9:30 a.m.

The impressive list of new establishments includes a number of national and international brand-name and new-concept stores opening their first Hawaii location. In addition, four Ala Moana Center favorites, Ann Taylor, Max&Co., White House | Black Market, and Williams Sonoma, will relocate from their current mall locations into the new expansion area presenting fresh, new store concepts.

Highlights of the retail expansion include the addition of Hawaii’s first J. Crew, Chico’s, Vera Bradley, and national home furnishing store, Design Within Reach.

Other stores opening their first Hawaii location at Ala Moana Center include Ash&Diamonds, Bare Escentuals, Blue Hawaii Lifestyle, Janie&Jack, The Kiss, Le Grand Marqet, Lululemon Athletica, Miki House, Philip Rickard Factory Showroom, and Ponte Vecchio. The names of ten additional stores opening as part of the two-level retail concourse are expected to be announced shortly when leases are finalized.
“Ala Moana Center is very pleased to offer local residents new and exciting retail options that will further diversify the mix of apparel and accessory brands that are currently offered in Hawaii,” said Sharon James, regional vice president of marketing for General Growth Properties Hawaii. “With strong and recognizable national retail brands like Nordstrom, J. Crew, and Chico’s entering our market, this shows continued interest among national retailers to open locations within the lucrative Hawaii market.”

Ala Moana Center customers can also look forward to the addition of a brand new five-story, 800-stall parking structure that will be situated adjacent to Nordstrom. Plans for the ground floor of the parking structure also include construction of additional retail space fronting Kapiolani Bloulevard.

Following the completion of the retail expansion in spring 2008, Ala Moana Center will offer customers 290 stores, including 70 restaurants and four major department stores.
