Notting Hill Carnival of the UK secures the title of the Best International Carnival Float in the Seychelles ( For a second consecutive year the Notting Hill carnival delegation from the United Kingdom has rocked the streets of Victoria and won the first prize of the best International Float for the “Carnaval International de Victoria” 2012. Dressed up in colorful enticing costumes with feathers and ‘blings’, the five samba dancers jammed the streets on the symphony of the Notting Hill steel drum and carnival dancers.

Although the competition was fierce among the thirty three International floats the Notting Hill dancers and revelers fluttered their feathers and through their costumes allowed their imagination to run wild in this contest. In the Presence of the Seychelles President; James Michel; high government dignitaries and crowds of spectators, the Notting Hill carnival float had what it takes to secure its title as the best International Carnival Float. Line up 48th out of 56th floats, the Notting Hill float parading in Victoria lived up to its carnival reputation; that of showcasing a spectacular and sweaty show. Awarded with the gold trophy sculpted by Tom Bowers and presented by the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Alain St Ange, and Didier Robert the President “de la region la Reunion’ the Notting Hill delegation’s collection of Tom Bowers’ gold trophies becomes much bigger.

The Reunion delegation carnival float has taken the second place title from Indonesia who was showcasing a combination of Javanese jacket and sarong together with Kebaya: a beautiful embroidered blouse worn by women. The Reunion’s hundred delegation member carnival float: the biggest ever in this second edition of the carnival winds their way through the streets of Victoria as they bang the traditional drums of the Reunion Islands. Dressed in pirate costumes the Reunion delegation wins for the first time ever the silver sculpted trophy by Tom Bowers. Whereas, Indonesia which was ranked second in the first edition of the “Carnaval International de Victoria” goes down to third place by taking the Bronze trophy from the delegation of Zimbabwe.
