Green Globe recertifies Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, Barbados

Green Globe recertifies Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, Barbados ( LOS ANGELES, California - Green Globe today announces recertification of the Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, Barbados. The resort is located on the casual south coast of Barbados on Dover Beach along the St. Lawrence Gap, a lively area known for dining, nightlife, and open-air shopping. It is approximately four miles from the capital city of Bridgetown.

Divi Resorts has implemented a variety of sustainability programs and initiatives across all its Caribbean properties, such as increasing recycling, installing low-flow toilets and showerheads, and cutting chlorine usage in pools by 50 percent.

Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, said: “This outstanding vacation destination proactively demonstrates responsible tourism, and they look for new ways to help protect natural resources every day. They have just developed new purchasing policies and a new comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan that clearly demonstrates the property’s commitment.”

Its staff encourages guests to reuse towels and sheets to decrease the energy used in machine washing and water waste, and the open-air bar and restaurant only uses reusable plastic cups.

Divi Southwinds Beach Resort’s General Manager, Alvin Jemmott, said, “What happens in tourism affects the lives of every Barbadian, every visitor to our shores, and Divi Southwinds. We have been in operation for over thirty years on this beautiful island, and one of our goals is to maintain the beauty of the location and the island through our sustainable efforts. We firmly believe that any protection of our reefs and coastline is the protection of our own assets and the future of our operation.”

Divi Southwinds Beach Resort is situated amidst the unique geological structure of the Caribbean island, Barbados. Visitors from all over the world hike through cane fields, tropical forests, and visit beautiful historic towns and coastal communities. Barbados is also a coral island, which makes scuba diving very popular. The fringes and reefs found off Barbados blossom with healthy sponges, coral, and abundant plant life. The Divi Southwinds Beach Resort in Barbados is ideally located on a half mile of white sand beach amidst twenty acres of tropical gardens. The lively St. Lawrence Gap – a unique area of shops, restaurants, and nightlife – runs through the Divi Southwinds, offering guests a range of activities on and off the beach.

Over 130 spacious suites with fully-equipped kitchens and a host of amenities make the Divi Southwinds Beach Resort a perfect choice for a Caribbean family vacation or a special island holiday.
