Young Seychellois shows the way for everyone to benefit from the Carnaval International de Victoria that is staged annually in Seychelles

Young Seychellois shows the way for everyone to benefit from the Carnaval International de Victoria that is staged annually in Seychelles ( A young student from Seychelles, Richard Ernest Athanasuis Ahweng, who will be turning 16 (sixteen) years old soon, has shown the way in the field of innovation to capitalize from the Carnaval International de Victoria that takes place annually in the Seychelles. Richard took time to prepare a small Creole-English, pocket-sized dictionary to sell to visitors in Seychelles during the carnival.

“It was pleasing to see a young person seize an opportunity that now exists in Seychelles. The annual carnival opens opportunities for everyone to be innovative, which can open doors for business transactions. The Tourism Board is mandated to bring the carnival to Seychelles, every Seychellois can then develop avenues best suited to them to benefit from the carnival. Postcards, music CDs, books, magazines, and more are all saleable items during the carnival. Richard has gone a step further by producing a small pocket-sized Creole-English dictionary. That was a great idea, it was a needed small publication, and we welcomed his initiative and we congratulated him,” Alain St.Ange, CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, said.

Richard is the son of Lucy Athanasius and of Robert Ahweng. He is from Ma Constance and is the Head Boy at the Mont Fleuri Secondary School. He is an S5 student finishing secondary school and is hoping to pursue advanced-level studies at a university. He is an active student who also participates in various educational, cultural, and sporting activities at the school level. He also participates in football, canoeing, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, karting, and now has settled into Kyokushin karate.

“I started karate seriously less than two years ago, and now it has become part of my life. I have dedicated most of my time to karate and studies, which in the karate department has had magnificent results; I was voted best junior karateka for the year 2011 by the Seychelles Karate Federation. My aim is to obtain my black belt in less than 4 years and if possible represent Seychelles in international competitions. When it comes to my studies though, I will be sitting for my I.G.C.S.E this year, and I hope to obtain good results. In my spare time, I like to go out and have fun with my friends. I am a very outgoing person, but at the same time, I can be reserved, depending on the circumstances. I am a friendly person, and I love making new friends. I enjoy going to parties, the beach, and just simply having fun. I also play the guitar, and I have a passion for music,” Richard Ernest Athanasuis Ahweng said.
