From Düsseldorf to Tripoli: Afriqiyah Airways connects North Rhine-Westphalia with western and central Africa

( Nonstop to the southern coast of the Mediterranean directly on the Sahara: Beginning Monday, October 29, Afriqiyah Airways begins Airbus A320 service from Düsseldorf to Tripoli three times a week. The Libyan capital is the political, economic, and cultural hub of the country. Düsseldorf International is now offering the only direct connection to Libya from North Rhine-Westphalia.

“Afriqiyah Airways is an established airline that operates an aviation hub in the Libyan capital. In Tripoli, passengers may connect to numerous destinations throughout western and central Africa," according to Christoph Blume, spokesperson for Düsseldorf Airport. “This flight connection is an additional building block in the airport's strategy of expanding air travel to meet the mobility needs of our region. Libya is a country in economic transition. As the largest non-European supplier of petroleum to Germany, it is growing in importance." Today Libya is the beneficiary of more German investment than any other North African nation.

Afriqiyah Airways views itself as an ambassador for the African continent. Founded in 2001, the airline routes nearly all of its flights through the Tripoli hub. From there, passengers may connect to 15 sub-Saharan destinations, including Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast. Transit passengers receive a 24-hour visa at no charge. Benghazi, center of the Libyan oil industry, is also an Afriqiyah Airways destination.

As the Afriqiyah Airways hub, Tripoli offers transit passengers a busy schedule of connecting flights. But this new connection is not only attractive for transit passengers. Libya is becoming increasingly attractive as a tourist destination. Cultural travelers and desert aficionados are visiting the North African state in growing numbers. The country possesses a rich cultural heritage, as great civilizations have made their presence felt here since the dawn of history. Libya is a place for discoverers. The capital Tripoli is known as “Queen of the Sea." It is a city is famous for bright sunshine and warm hearts.

Afriqiyah Airways departs Düsseldorf for Tripoli on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 12:00 noon. Flight duration is approximately 3 hours 45 minutes. Return flights to Düsseldorf are scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8:20 am.
